Wuthering Waves Pity System Explained: 80 Hard Pity, Soft Pity & the 50/50
TL;DR: Wuthering Waves' Convene system uses a 0.8% base 5-star rate with a hard pity at 80 pulls. Soft pity ramps from around pull 66 (community-measured, not officially published), so most 5-stars land between pulls 70 and 78. The character banner has a 50/50 — lose it and your next 5-star is the featured Resonator, guaranteed, for a worst case of 160 pulls (25,600 Astrite). The weapon banner has no 50/50 at all: every 5-star is the featured weapon, making it one of the friendliest weapon banners in the genre. Pity carries over between banners of the same type and never resets between versions.
This guide covers every number behind the Convene system as of Version 3.7 (October 2026), and what each of them means for your pull planning. The official rates come from Kuro Games' in-game Convene Details screen; soft pity figures come from large community pull-tracker datasets.
The four banner types at a glance
| Banner | Base 5★ rate | Hard pity | Featured guarantee | Worst case |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Featured Resonator (limited character) | 0.8% | 80 | 50/50 → loss guarantees featured next | 160 pulls / 25,600 Astrite |
| Featured Weapon (limited weapon) | 0.8% | 80 | No 50/50 — always featured | 80 pulls / 12,800 Astrite |
| Standard (Tidal Chorus) | 0.8% | 80 | Permanent pool, no featured unit | — |
| Novice (Beginner's Choice) | 0.8% | 80 | Free 5★ Verina at pull 50, 20% discount on first 50 | 50 pulls |
One pull costs 160 Astrite (or one Tide item: Radiant Tides for the character banner, Forging Tides for weapons, Lustrous Tides for standard). The average cost of a featured Resonator — mixing in the guarantee — works out to roughly 110 pulls (~17,600 Astrite).
Soft pity: where the rate actually climbs
The published 0.8% rate is only the floor. Community datasets (thousands of recorded pulls across every banner since 1.0) show the 5-star rate stops being flat and starts climbing from around pull 66, rising roughly 6 percentage points per pull until the guaranteed hit at 80:
| Pull number | 5★ chance this pull (approx.) |
|---|---|
| 1–65 | 0.8% |
| 66 | ≈ 6.8% |
| 70 | ≈ 30.8% |
| 75 | ≈ 60.8% |
| 79 | ≈ 84.8% |
| 80 | 100% (hard pity) |
Soft pity is a community-documented estimate — Kuro Games does not publish the ramp. Treat 66 as the consensus starting point, not an official spec.
The practical takeaway: the average 5-star lands around pull 70–72, and hitting the full 80 is rarer than the raw "80 pity" phrasing suggests. When you're 60 pulls deep, you're not at the start of a long grind — you're already inside the window where more than half of all 5-stars drop.
The 50/50 and the guarantee
On the Featured Resonator banner, every 5-star result is a coin flip:
- Win the 50/50 (≈50% of 5-stars): you get the featured Resonator directly. Pity resets to 0.
- Lose the 50/50: you get a random standard 5-star instead — and your very next 5-star on any character event banner is the featured Resonator, guaranteed.
Two details people miss:
- The guarantee carries over between banners. Lose a 50/50 on the current banner and skip the next one? Your guarantee is still waiting when you return. It does not expire at version end. Treat it like a savings account.
- Pity also carries over within the same banner family: your counter and guarantee state move from one character banner to the next. They never transfer across families — character pity never becomes weapon pity.
Why the weapon banner is unusually generous
Wuthering Waves' Featured Weapon Convene has no 50/50, no fate points, no epitomized path. Every single 5-star result on the weapon banner is the featured weapon. The ceiling for a signature weapon is therefore a flat 80 pulls (12,800 Astrite) — half the worst case of the character banner.
The counter-argument is economic, not probabilistic: most of your pulls should still go to Resonators first. A signature weapon is a damage multiplier; a new character is a new capability. The math-first order of operations: characters before weapons, weapons only for your most-used DPS.
4-star rules (they matter more than you think)
- Every 10 pulls guarantees at least one 4★ or higher, independent of your 5★ pity.
- On limited banners, a 4★ result has a 50% chance to be one of the three rate-up units; losing that roll guarantees the next 4★ is a rate-up.
- Because 4★ pity is independent, a lucky early 5★ doesn't slow your 4★ flow — and vice versa.
Reading your own pity (there's no in-game counter)
Wuthering Waves does not display a pity counter. To find yours: open Convene History in-game, find your most recent 5★, and count pulls from there — that number is your current pity. Third-party trackers can import your history via the export URL from the official account page.
Our Pull Calculator does this math for you: enter your counter (and whether your last 50/50 was a loss), and it returns your exact odds for the next pull, your next batch, and the budget to guarantee.
Planning rules of thumb
| Goal | Budget | Note |
|---|---|---|
| "I'll take my chances" featured pull | ~12,800 Astrite | One pity cycle, ~62% featured odds including 50/50 |
| Guaranteed featured Resonator | 25,600 Astrite (160 pulls) | Worst case: lose 50/50 at 80, hit again at 80 |
| Guaranteed featured weapon | 12,800 Astrite (80 pulls) | No 50/50 — flat ceiling |
| F2P per 6-week patch | ~60–80 pulls | Depends on event coverage and Spiral Abyss-equivalents |
The planning implications are simple but strict: one guaranteed featured Resonator per patch is the F2P steady state. Two in one patch requires either savings from skipped banners or luck. If you're at 70+ pity with a live guarantee, you are one banner away from a free featured — skipping a banner you don't love is always +12,800 Astrite toward the one you do.
Common misconceptions, corrected
Because WuWa's system differs from Genshin's in several places, imported habits cause real planning errors. The four we see most:
- "I need to hit 80 to be safe." Only technically true — soft pity starts at ~66 and the average 5★ lands around 70–72. Budgeting 80 per cycle is right for worst-case planning; expecting 80 every time makes you skip banners you could have safely pulled.
- "The weapon banner is a trap like in other games." The opposite: with no 50/50 and no epitomized-path tax, WuWa's weapon banner is mechanically the cheapest featured-item banner in the genre. Whether you should pull is a priorities question, not a fairness one.
- "Losing a 50/50 wastes my pity." It doesn't. Any 5★ resets the counter, and the loss converts into a guaranteed featured next time — the pulls aren't wasted, they're prepayment.
- "Pity carries across banner types." It doesn't. Character and weapon banners are separate ledgers; 70 character-banner pulls do nothing for your weapon pity. Only same-family carry-over exists.
One more framing that helps: think of the guarantee state as a savings account and pity as a checking account. The checking balance (counter) survives banner changes within a family; the savings (guarantee) survives everything except spending it. Players who "save" by pulling early on a banner they don't love, while holding a guarantee, are spending their savings at the worst possible exchange rate.

FAQ
- Does pity reset when a new banner starts?
- No. Pity and the 50/50 guarantee carry over between banners of the same type (character → character, weapon → weapon). They never transfer across banner families.
- When does soft pity start in Wuthering Waves?
- Around pull 66, based on community tracker data. The rate climbs roughly 6 points per pull from there until the 100% guarantee at 80. Kuro Games has never published the ramp.
- Is the weapon banner 50/50?
- No. Every 5-star on the Featured Weapon Convene is the featured weapon. Worst case is 80 pulls, half of the character banner's worst case.
- How many Astrite is full pity?
- 12,800 Astrite for one 80-pull cycle (80 × 160). A worst-case guaranteed featured Resonator is 25,600 Astrite (160 pulls).
- What is the average 5-star rate including the guarantee?
- Kuro publishes 1.8% as the consolidated average rate on limited banners — pity math pulls the flat 0.8% up to that figure.
- Does getting a standard 5-star off-banner reset my pity?
- Yes — any 5★ result resets the counter to zero, which is exactly how the "lost 50/50 → guaranteed next" mechanism works.
